News for the week of April 11, 2016

Bailly Elementary! 

Word of the week  Self-control – having the ability to control your own behavior, especially with your reactions and impulses.

Brayden, 4th grade



Riddle of the week: Where do fish keep their money? Write down the answer and have your parent sign it so you can pick out a treat from our treasure chest! 


Kindergarten Math: 

This week we read a story about Mrs. Potts and her triplets. We talked about inference and how to answer questions that we could think of with the scenario. It was worked really hard taking turns writing on the board given information and inferred. 




Kindergarten LA:

This week we read the Knuffle Bunny books and made connections. We talked about Four-Level Questioning and gave examples. We also did our first vocabulary map, discussed a definition and used our word in a sentence. I'm sending home a worksheet as homework for next weeks lesson!





First Grade Math:

This week we worked on standard measurement and we did a fun math facts game with a deck of cards. Next week we have a fun lesson using yarn! 



First Grade LA:

This week Emmersynn finished up her persuasive writing assignment on the letter "E". We also read the digital copy of the book "Bemboo's Zoo" and made a Venn Diagram comparing Alphabeasties. Next week we will begin a new lesson.


Second Grade Math:

This week we started a new packed called Kirkman's School Girl Problem. It's a famous word problem. We also got to do Sumdog on the laptops. Next week we will begin timed tests to get them quick at math facts!



Second Grade LA:

Meet Officer Joe Christian from the Chesterton Police Department! Officer Joe read did a great job reading chapter 1 of the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Guess who next weeks guest reader might be? It's SO exciting! 



Third Grade Math:

This week we continued with mad minute timed tests. We have 4 more kids that need to pass the multiplication so we can have an ice cream party! Please practice "x 12's" at home! Many have moved onto division. We have been working on solving math word problems using a Comic Math. It's been difficult to decipher the information but they are working hard! We even got the chance to practice a little Sumdog on the laptops too! Congrats Becca for passing the Mad Minute timed test!
  




Third Grade LA:

This week we worked on grammar. We learned to construct the rules of subject-verb agreement based on what happens to the verbs when the subject is changed from singular to plural. Next week we will work on creative problem solving. 





Fourth Grade Math:

This week we did timed division tests, solved Riona's now famous "problem of the day" and worked on our Lego fraction packets. We even managed to sneak in a little Sumdog on the laptops too! 




Fourth Grade LA

This week we started a new lesson called "Historical Documentation of Change". We are discussing Tecumseh and learning the difference between primary and secondary sources. We will continue with this lesson next week.
