Image result for the great show and tell disaster by mike reissThis week students learned about anagrams. We used the homework assignment they completed last week to look at all of the different words we could make from the letters PTOS. We also spent some time figuring out several other anagrams. Next, we read the book The Great Show-and-Tell Disaster by Mike Reiss. It's a very fun book that incorporates a ton of anagrams! Due to the field trip, we were only able to meet once this week.

MATH

This week we continued our lesson on transitivity. Students worked with groups of three objects and put them into order of lightest, middle and heaviest. The learned the concept that you could figure out that if object A is heavier than object B and object C is lighter than object B; you can deduce that object A is heavier than object C without having to physically measure them against each other.  This link has a short video to help better explain the concept https://images.app.goo.gl/sFGSWL4eDVGCVpDD8

LANGUAGE ARTS

This week we read the first chapter of My Father's Dragon.  After finishing the first chapter, students used the hamburger model to structure a predictive paragraph of what they believe will happen next in the story. After editing, they composed a final draft of their predictive paragraph. Next week, we will continue reading and discover if anyone predicted correctly!

MATH

Image result for mosaic tessellationThis week students put what they have learned about flipping, sliding and turning shapes into action! Each student chose three shapes to use in their mosaic creation. Next, they worked on putting them together and practicing how they could move them to create their very own tessellation. Next week, they will transfer their creations onto triangle grid paper. We were only able to meet once this week due to E-Learning.

Last week we read Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle by Beatrix Potter and completed a reading analyzer on the story together. Students then paired up and chose a different Beatrix Potter book to read and analyze with their partner. They continued working on those this week. Due to a schedule change we were only able to meet once this week. Next week, pairs will present their reading analyzers and we will discuss the similarities and differences of the several Beatrix Potter books that they have read.

MATH

We began a new lesson this week in math. Students will continue working to discover growing patterns and use the information to make predictions. We began this lesson by playing a silent game. I wrote four numbers on the board and then a student wrote the next number that should be in the pattern I had started. Next, without speaking, the student handed the marker to another student to continue it, We did this silently until everyone had had a chance to participate and figure out the pattern. After every student had a turn, they told me out loud what pattern was represented on the board. We will continue working on this next week, incorporating calculators to help implement the pattern function. We were only able to meet once this week due to E-Learning.

After completing Girls Think of Everything, which was about female inventors, students worked on different stations to come up with inventions of their own. . Students then presented one of their completed inventions to the class. It was fun to see the ideas they had all come up with! Next week, we will begin the autobiography of Ruby Bridges.

MATH

Image result for polyhedron cross sectionWe continued our lesson on polyhedrons this week. We began learning about the cross sections of different 3-D shapes. Next week, we will investigate the cross sections more with hands-on activities. We were only able to meet once this week due to E-Learning.

I look forward to continuing our learning adventure next week! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
